How to Choose a Horizontal Fire Pump

When looking for a horizontal fire pump, make sure you check its mechanical properties, structural requirements and corrosion resistance. The pump should also have other necessary performances that make it suitable for use in fire protection systems. The manufacturer must be able to meet the relevant standards, including GB6245-200, the standard for fire pump manufacturers. It is also important to check the starting performance, which should be smooth and rapid at room temperature. Moreover, it should reach its full working condition within 20 seconds.
The most common type of fire pump is the horizontal split-case pump. It is the most cost-efficient, particularly for higher-flow applications. It is also easy to maintain and comes in a variety of sizes. Another type of fire pump is the vertical split-case pump. This type is similar to the horizontal split-case pump, but its vertical design requires less space and protects against flooding damage.
Fire pumps are often equipped with a bypass system, which allows the pump to function without the incoming supply line. A bypass pipe must be as long as the pump's discharge pipe and equipped with a check valve. Ideally, this bypass should be installed after the discharge-side control valve. However, it is not advisable to install a bypass valve between two fire pumps that are connected in series.
The cost of a Horizontal Fire pump depends on its horsepower rating and type of controller. For smaller-scale applications, vertical inline pumps are more affordable. However, if you need a higher horsepower pump for a small property, you might want to go for a horizontal split-case pump. Although the horizontal split-case pump is a little more expensive initially, it will last longer than a cheaper model. Moreover, it is easier to maintain and service than other types of fire pumps.
A Horizontal Fire pump can be either electric or diesel. Both types have their pros and cons. Electric models can be disassembled in the field and reinstalled, whereas the diesel-powered models need to be dismantled and rearranged. For larger applications, you should choose a pump with a centrifugal system.
A horizontal fire pump should meet the water pressure and flow requirements specified by the manufacturer. In addition, it should not fall below the given performance curve or design requirements. Further, the horizontal fire pump should be able to perform its function in a high-pressure emergency. Hence, it is important to consider the hazard analysis before purchasing a horizontal fire pump.
The NFPA 20 standard specifies the type of pumps to be installed in a fire protection system. Horizontal fire pumps are best suited for commercial buildings, but you can also choose the vertical version if you are looking for a smaller footprint.

    • Electric pump: kinds of end suction pump, split case pump, multistage pump. The pump impeller material made of cast iron, stainless steel.
    • D series Type is the horizontal multistage ring section pumps and high pressure pump. all the impellers are stacked in single direction on the same pump shaft. The rotors are perfectly dynamically balanced and the maximum stages can be up to 12stages.
    • Multistage pump can be horizontal or vertical type, with low pressure, middle pressure and high pressure, with application of boost pump, boiler pump, hot water pump and mine pump, etc.
    • Electric pump, closed coupled multistage centrifugal horizontal pumps its casing is made from cast iron and the impeller can be cast iron, stainless steel, brass. The shaft from stainless steel, mechanical seal is carbon/ceramic.
    • GeneralType D pump is single-suction, multi-stage, segmental centrifugal pump. It is widely used for water supply & drainage in fields of factory, mining and city. It is provided for delivering clear water without solid particles or other liquid which is physically and chemically similar to clear water. The temperature of the liquid is 0C~ 80C. Permissible maximum inlet pressure is 0.6Mpa.
