CDL Stainless Steel Vertical Multistage Pump Technical Architecture & Key Features

The CDL Stainless Steel Vertical Multistage Pump is a non-self-priming vertical centrifugal pump designed for high-pressure, space-constrained fluid handling. Recognized globally as an industry-standard design profile (pioneered by Grundfos CR series architecture), the CDL designation denotes an all-stainless steel wetted construction (typically AISI 304 or AISI 316), distinguishing it from hybrid models with cast-iron bases (CDLF series).

Technical Architecture & Key Features

  • Inline Pipe Alignment: The suction and discharge ports sit on the same horizontal plane at the base. This inline geometry allows the unit to fit directly into straight pipe runs, saving up to 75% of floor space compared to horizontal pumps.
  • Stacked Impeller Design: Fluid passes through multiple stainless steel impellers stacked vertically along a single shaft. Each stage incrementally adds kinetic energy, creating high cumulative discharge pressure without needing higher RPMs.
  • Corrosion Resistance: All wetted components—including impellers, diffusers, shafting, and the outer pressure sleeve—are manufactured from pressed and laser-welded stainless steel (SS304 for general water, SS316/316L for aggressive media).
  • Cartridge Mechanical Shaft Seal: High-grade CDL pumps feature a cartridge seal design, allowing quick seal replacement without decoupling the motor or disconnecting system piping.

CDL vs. CDLF Metallurgy Distinction

Feature CDL Series CDLF Series

Base & Head Casing Material Stainless Steel Cast Iron
Fluid Purity Level Ultra-clean / Food & Pharma grade Standard industrial / Potable water
Corrosion Protection 100% full wetted corrosion resistance Moderate (base exposed to rust/pitting)
Typical Applications RO filtration, CIP washing, demineralized water Building HVAC, general booster skids, irrigation

Core Applications

  1. Water Treatment & Filtration: High-pressure feed pumps for Reverse Osmosis (RO) membranes, ultrafiltration skids, and distillation units.
  2. Commercial Pressure Boosting: High-rise residential and commercial building water supply booster packages.
  3. Industrial Processing: Boiler feed water, high-pressure washing systems, machine tool coolant loops, and CIP (Clean-In-Place) food/beverage lines.
  4. Fire Safety & HVAC: Fire protection jockey pumps, cooling tower circulation, and district heating loops.
