The Strategic Advantage of Long Shaft Fire Pumps

In scenarios where the water supply is below ground level—such as in large-scale industrial complexes, offshore platforms, or facilities with dedicated fire-water tanks—a standard centrifugal pump cannot create the suction lift required for reliable operation. The long shaft fire pump (Vertical Turbine) is the solution.

How It Works

The system consists of a surface-mounted motor or engine connected via a long vertical drive shaft to a multi-stage pump assembly submerged deep within the water.

  • Positive Priming: Since the pump impellers are submerged, they are always "primed." This satisfies NFPA 20 requirements by removing the risk of air-locking, which is the primary cause of failure in suction-lift fire systems.

  • Vertical Footprint: These pumps occupy minimal floor space at the surface, making them ideal for space-constrained pump houses where a horizontal setup would be impractical.
